I was upset when I found out what happened. I even cried on her. There were so many people taken and I wasn't able to save them... [ it hurts. she's failed so many of her friends.

[ Her words hurt more than she probably realises, but he can't blame her either. It must have been just as hard, coming back to find that so many close friends probably didn't make it.

When she pauses though, she'll find his heart is probably going overboard on the sad side of things, like nails on a chalkboard honestly. ]

It... [ But he can't get words out, and right then he wished he could do telepathy like Hyoubu could. Just touch her and let her see his thoughts instead because his throat feels scratchy and dry. ]

[ she closes her eyes when she hears the sadness. it's so painful. has she been saying the wrong things this whole time? so much for taking care of him. ]

I-- I'm sorry. Should I have not said anything? [ would that have been better? she doesn't know. all she wants is for him to feel better.

and it's so much different from when she was kidnapped too. the sound of his heart despite how upset he was with himself sounded different. this is much worse.

[ It's fine until she brings up Rei honestly, but she probably doesn't know what happened either. It's impossible, unless Rei herself told her the details and he can't imagine that happening either. Rei had already said she was rather passive about it all, but-- He just shakes his head a little. ]

Don't say it's fine when it isn't! [ her voice is much louder now as she explodes into a fit. she doesn't mean to, but he really shouldn't say something like that when his heart is telling her the opposite thing. it's a bit hypocritical in a way, but she doesn't even notice it. in her defense, she doesn't care if she gets hurt as long as he's okay.

[ He flinches but doesn't pull away, though she does. Rather than trying to chase her, he just lets himself flop down to the bed, hand moving to cover his mouth instead. It isn't out of shock, more because he is trying to bottle things up even if he probably shouldn't. He'd said he'd be honest with her but wasn't this too much? Is it selfish to just want to curl up against her and try and pretend none of it happened?

He twists until both of his palms can move to rub at his eyes, and then he just rolls onto his back to drape his arm there, shielding half of his face. ]

You know that threat is going to be difficult to make good on. I've heard it from Merlin, and I'll kill anyone that tries.

[ then maybe he should have been clearer about it!!! but she doesn't hold it against him. it's just that she's been so stressed these past three days that she ended up yelling at him like this. she knows she shouldn't have, and she feels so guilty now.

she wants to get up and just move to the living room by herself, but she knows that he wouldn't like that. would he like that? maybe she should ask... but instead of doing that, she draws her legs closer to her and folds them until she can rest her chin on them. ]

[ He should have... he just meant he needed water first. Now he isn't sure if he should because of how wound up and stressed she already is, and the last thing he wants is to make this worse.

He leans over finally to reach for the water she put on the side, finally, and gulps down almost a full glass.

He isn't sure about what she says here either, instead he just asks: ] How much did she tell you?

[ He isn't looking at her though, instead putting the water back down with some still in the bottom. ]

[ that's-- that's why she thought it was okay for them to talk about to begin with. rei seemed okay, and athena believes in her friends more than anything else. she believes that rei's strong enough to just get over it, even if it didn't sit well with her at first.

that's all she says before she flops on the bed though, looking at the wall. but it hurts even more, not being able to look at him so she rolls to face him. it's fine if he doesn't look at her. ]

[ she doesn't mean to yell at her, but she's been stressed about so many things these past few days. this is her fear talking, now. [

[ Which may also hint as to why he's so fucked over right now. I could feel it. He doesn't look away from her once the water is back down, instead shifting onto his back again, looking up at the ceiling. ]

I felt them all leave. Her and Yuri... they did a good job but then-- [ That's when he chokes up again and ends up running both hands up into his hair. His heart feels like it's going to burst. ]

[Rei does not yell. She just meets Athena's angry face with a placid one. Does she like being yelled at? Not really. She did just die.]

I'm not. Please remember who you're speaking to and have a little more faith in me. I'll seriously protect you with everything that I have at my disposal. That's not taking it lightly. I will die to keep you safe if I have to.

[She folds her arms across her chest.]

And I'll do the same for Merlin. I'm immortal. I'm not going to allow some interstellar bully cut short the life of someone I care about.

[ a part of her doesn't want to hear it, though. just by listening to his heart, she knows it's going to be painful to hear.

she decides to wiggle closer to him than pull away again, until she can hide her head on his chest. ]

she remains quiet for a while though, but speaks up after a minute or so. ]

At least when she wiggles closer some of the noise seems to disappear, like it's soothing to have her against him, more than her pulling away, that's for sure. His hand does sink into her hair this time, pulling at her hairband to try and free it. ]

[ Well it's easier to really thread his hands into like that, ok ... It brings comfort, the repetitive motions of letting his fingers drag through the strands over and over. It's better when she shifts to hold him too, and this time he's a little more peaceful as his eyes flutter. ]
