[ right. time to get off him, so she does that and just sits next to him. this is awkward, and she doesn't know what to think, but what she does know is that she doesn't want to leave him alone. ]
Well, if you can't enter your bedroom, maybe you can sleep on our couch.
[ When she moves off him he draws his knees up to hopefully hide the problem that's making this x100 times more awkward than it needs to be. His voice goes quiet, and he looks ahead, out of the rooftop towards the rest of the colony. ]
Bye. [ He can't bring himself to say anything else, and instead just lets himself die inside. He probably could have done with the hat to hide his shame, thanks Athena. Instead he has to use his jacket!!! ]
[ jerks off on the roof i guess ]
( late on 7/4 ) uses this so i stop spamming your ic inbox
[ He aches everywhere, which probably makes a lot of sense given where he's been. His face, at least, has mostly healed at this point and he's taken the time to shower and eat before he picks up his CereVice and checks it for the first time in days.
He's still nervous, still a little scared when he opens up the messaging service, but whatever Athena tells him, he'll believe. Whether it's she didn't realise the weight of what he was hiding, or whether it's that he was an idiot for doubting her (he knows now that he probably is, but it doesn't help the doubt). He just needs to hear it from her now.
When he texts her, it's merely to put the ball in her court, to let her take the steps she wants. ]
[ truth be told, she should have asked when he would be back when he said goodbye. two days wasn't soon enough, and it felt like forever. she didn't get much sleep despite the enchantment on the bracelet, mostly because she didn't want to sleep. she wanted to keep herself busy instead, reading up on old case files to hone her skills in lawyering. reading her psychology books. thinking about archer's death and how that affects her.
seriously, Some Things happened while he was gone. and the moment she gets the text, she doesn't even bother making herself look pretty. she has to see him now. it's been too long. she's read the letter and did everything he told her to regarding some of the pages, as well. now's the time to give him her answer.
though before she dashes out of her room, she makes sure she grabs a small paper bag. and down she goes to where his apartment is.
and she sends a response to his text about ten minutes later. ]
[ There isn't much of a warning, merely ten minutes. He wasn't sure if she would have been working, but at least everything else was sorted. He'd just been staring at his CereVice, dressed in just a t-shirt hoodie with the hood up and black jeans. When he presses the button to open the door she'll note that the moon earring on the ribbon is actually on show, hanging over the top of the shirt.
If she's listening, she'll hear that his heart is a lot clearer now, and it's as it should have been days ago when she was back safe. Joy. Clarity. He's talked to Shigeru a lot the past few days, actually opened up and allowed himself to realise that he isn't alone here.
He's still nervous, but the fact that she came so quickly... it gives him hope. ]
...Hi. [ It's only one word, but it's said so softly, as if he's just seeing her for the first time all over again as someone he loves. ] Come in?
[ she's in nothing fancy, just her yellow and white suit along with the tie, though with the way she rushed downstairs the tie probably needs fixing. once he opens the door, she holds a hand up as if to say stop and wait because she has to catch her breath, too. this is nerve wracking, not to mention, she seriously did rush here, possibly bumping her head on the elevator door earlier, too. ]
Hi, [ she finally says, looking at her feet. then she looks up at him, a bit unsure at first, but she smiles softly. ] Welcome back.
[ and she takes a step inside.
he'd probably notice her eyebags and how messed up she truly looks, but that's still fine, isn't it? she's here. ]
[ He does stop when she asks though, taking that time to check her appearance. She does look like a mess, but he can't blame her for that. He doesn't know everything that's happened. Anything could have. It could simply be because of the letter. It could be anything else. He doesn't want to be selfish enough to presume it's all about him anymore. ]
Thanks. [ His stomach flutters a bit when she finally smiles though, hand reaching back to close the door and follow her into the room. ]
Do you want anything to drink? We probably have soda or water, but nothing perishable. I... haven't had the chance to go shopping yet.
[ her smile doesn't falter, though she does get a bit impatient. she wants to talk about the serious stuff already and get this over with - get everything she's been bottling up for days out of her chest.
but she'll wait. it'll be worth it, hopefully.
she sets the bag she brought with her on a table nearby before taking a seat. her eyes follow his every movement, as if she doesn't want to let him out of her sight anymore. ]
Water it is. [ He definitely sounds a lot more relieved that she came in person. She came here so quickly so they both don't have to stew over this. He pours out too glasses of water with a new bottle that was in the fridge, shoving that bit then taking the two glasses over to place them on the coffee table.
Finally, he takes a seat next to her, finding himself not actually that bothered that he can feel her gaze on him. He takes a few sips of his own water, and while he hasn't exactly not had it in days, he's had less than usual. ]
...So. [ He finally offers, placing the glass down as he looks at her. ]
[ Okay, his reflexes are not great considering he's covered in enough cuts and bruises as it is so he doesn't even have a chance to move out of the way when her fist comes flying and smacks him straight in the nose. There's a definite yelp as his hand flies up, delayed, to cover it. There isn't even a full second before blood drips down into his palm.
But she isn't wrong, which is why he doesn't protest either. ]
I know.
[ His hand is shaking a bit, but he doesn't move away. Ready to take anything else she throws at him. ]
[ well, that was it. all her stress and everything else balled up into one punch. now she feels like a huge weight's been taken off her shoulders, and she immediately smiles and even claps her hands together. ]
[ Great for her, maybe. His hand pulls away, but it's only because there's a puddle of blood there. His other hand reaches up to pinch the bridge of his nose, trying to get the flow to stop...
but it stings like a bitch. ]
I'm so glad. [ Sarcasm might be misplaced here but jesus fucking christ can she hit hard. ] One sec-- [ And whether she didn't want him to disappear before, he doesn't have much of a choice but to try and make his way to his bathroom now, shuffling around in there as he tries to clean his hand while tipping his head back. ]
[ she sighs once he gets up to go to the bathroom, trying to calm herself down. she already is calm, but her thoughts are all over the place. the punch was one thing, but she still has more to say to him aside from him being an idiot. that definitely can't be all she's going to tell him, after all.
so she waits patiently, fiddling with the paper bag she brought with her while he's away. ]
[ It takes more or less five minutes to stop it though. There's a drop or two that gets onto his shirt that he'll have to remove with magic later, he's too tired for it now, but for the most part it's just red and slightly bruised now.
But he doesn't mention it when he sits back down. ]
Alright. [ He twitches like he's ready to jump a mile if she goes to do that again, but he doesn't say anything else. Clearly, he's giving her the space to say her piece. ]
[ she repeats, still playing with the paper bag's string. she doesn't look at him. not yet. mostly because she can't -- not after all that. ]
But you were honest with me, so I want to thank you for that. [ a pause, and the string almost breaks so she stops playing with the bag, and puts it in the space between them. ] I knew your life was tough, but I didn't think it was like that, so I have a better understanding of you, now.
And I'm thankful for that, as well.
[ still not looking at him, she gently pushes the bag closer to him until it hits the side of his leg. ]
[ His eyes dip to watch her fingers quietly, before he looks back up at her face. Really he's a bit ashamed of how he really didn't trust her to just take what was on those papers and still... feel the same. Does she? She said it's a make up present so--
Still, now he just wants to add something first, though he does curl his hand around the bag. ]
I was--still am not sure about how I feel about some of the things that happened. I just. Didn't want you to believe in something that I wasn't saying. I don't want to hide anything from you.
I think it took a lot more from me to admit a lot of that, a lot of this, honestly. I'm sorry for putting you through this, you know? Like I said before I left for... [ A shrug. ] I know it's my fault.
...So what is this? [ He holds up the bag slightly, but he's smiling fondly at her, like he's blessed because she's still here after all this -- even if she punched him in the face a few minutes ago. ]
[ hopefully, he doesn't fear her being near him, because she inches closer to him until she can hold the paper bag with him.
what's inside -- she doesn't pull it out yet, but she does smile at him. it feels great to have a better understanding of him now. not just for psychological reasons, but for personal reasons, as well. it's nice to actually know the one you love. ]
So long as you don't blame yourself for it until the end of time.
[ because that was one of the reasons why she was upset with him in the first place. dwelling on things that's happened in the past and not forgiving himself for it. ]
Open it, open it, [ she says excitedly, a hand moving to his shoulder and giving it a squeeze. ]
[ With how things have gone? Not at all. His head even dips a little, forehead pressing against hers. Craving the contact, really. They might have ... had some contact before he left, but that was pretty much him fearing he'd never be able to touch, to hold or kiss her again.
He knows better now, thankfully. ]
I'll try not to. [ Though it's more that he knows he has to go back to that life as well, and the tear it brought on himself between duty and just saying fuck it. To live for his time here and nothing else.
Guess which one he picked? ]
I'm opening it... [ His heart does this little flutter though, hearing the excitement in her voice again instead of the sadness that had taken over. This... was so much better. He pulls on the bag gently, opening it while pulling back a little now so he can see properly. ]
[ when he pulls out what's inside, he'll be holding a picture frame! it's a small one, just about the size of their cerevice. it's made of wood and it even looks handmade? there are stickers of widget's different faces all over the frame and stars and glitter, as if a preschool kid made it. but no, it's just athena. ]
I didn't know what to put for your magic, so I put glitter everywhere.
[ then she laughs.
the photo though, is the one they took at the cafe when they looked stupidly happy. when they pretended they were royalty. when they still weren't together, but were already falling for each other. ]
I'm sorry, too. [ for making him stressed out over the stupidest things. for... everything she's done that he didn't like. ] Do you forgive me?
[ His heart thuds before he can say anything though, and he can't stop the grin spreading on his face. It's short lived as he has to press his fingers against his nose, but the joy is there for sure. He's happy. He feels lighter. He swallows, tries to stop his stomach from flip flopping as he takes in the photo. To be honest, it had been his background picture for a while until they took another and that replaced it but-- ]
Glitter works, I think. [ It isn't too loud, and his voice cracks as he looks up at her now. ] I don't have anything I need to forgive you for. You haven't done anything wrong.
Though I have one more thing to admit. [ His thumb gently slides over the picture, palms a little clammy. ] It ... [ He laughs faintly, ears and cheeks flushing a little as his head gently moves to rest against her shoulder. ] That day, when you wore that dress. I-- [ Embarrassing. ] I really liked that. So thank you.
