[ her smile doesn't falter, though she does get a bit impatient. she wants to talk about the serious stuff already and get this over with - get everything she's been bottling up for days out of her chest.
but she'll wait. it'll be worth it, hopefully.
she sets the bag she brought with her on a table nearby before taking a seat. her eyes follow his every movement, as if she doesn't want to let him out of her sight anymore. ]
Water it is. [ He definitely sounds a lot more relieved that she came in person. She came here so quickly so they both don't have to stew over this. He pours out too glasses of water with a new bottle that was in the fridge, shoving that bit then taking the two glasses over to place them on the coffee table.
Finally, he takes a seat next to her, finding himself not actually that bothered that he can feel her gaze on him. He takes a few sips of his own water, and while he hasn't exactly not had it in days, he's had less than usual. ]
...So. [ He finally offers, placing the glass down as he looks at her. ]
[ Okay, his reflexes are not great considering he's covered in enough cuts and bruises as it is so he doesn't even have a chance to move out of the way when her fist comes flying and smacks him straight in the nose. There's a definite yelp as his hand flies up, delayed, to cover it. There isn't even a full second before blood drips down into his palm.
But she isn't wrong, which is why he doesn't protest either. ]
I know.
[ His hand is shaking a bit, but he doesn't move away. Ready to take anything else she throws at him. ]
[ well, that was it. all her stress and everything else balled up into one punch. now she feels like a huge weight's been taken off her shoulders, and she immediately smiles and even claps her hands together. ]
[ Great for her, maybe. His hand pulls away, but it's only because there's a puddle of blood there. His other hand reaches up to pinch the bridge of his nose, trying to get the flow to stop...
but it stings like a bitch. ]
I'm so glad. [ Sarcasm might be misplaced here but jesus fucking christ can she hit hard. ] One sec-- [ And whether she didn't want him to disappear before, he doesn't have much of a choice but to try and make his way to his bathroom now, shuffling around in there as he tries to clean his hand while tipping his head back. ]
[ she sighs once he gets up to go to the bathroom, trying to calm herself down. she already is calm, but her thoughts are all over the place. the punch was one thing, but she still has more to say to him aside from him being an idiot. that definitely can't be all she's going to tell him, after all.
so she waits patiently, fiddling with the paper bag she brought with her while he's away. ]
[ It takes more or less five minutes to stop it though. There's a drop or two that gets onto his shirt that he'll have to remove with magic later, he's too tired for it now, but for the most part it's just red and slightly bruised now.
But he doesn't mention it when he sits back down. ]
Alright. [ He twitches like he's ready to jump a mile if she goes to do that again, but he doesn't say anything else. Clearly, he's giving her the space to say her piece. ]
[ she repeats, still playing with the paper bag's string. she doesn't look at him. not yet. mostly because she can't -- not after all that. ]
But you were honest with me, so I want to thank you for that. [ a pause, and the string almost breaks so she stops playing with the bag, and puts it in the space between them. ] I knew your life was tough, but I didn't think it was like that, so I have a better understanding of you, now.
And I'm thankful for that, as well.
[ still not looking at him, she gently pushes the bag closer to him until it hits the side of his leg. ]
[ His eyes dip to watch her fingers quietly, before he looks back up at her face. Really he's a bit ashamed of how he really didn't trust her to just take what was on those papers and still... feel the same. Does she? She said it's a make up present so--
Still, now he just wants to add something first, though he does curl his hand around the bag. ]
I was--still am not sure about how I feel about some of the things that happened. I just. Didn't want you to believe in something that I wasn't saying. I don't want to hide anything from you.
I think it took a lot more from me to admit a lot of that, a lot of this, honestly. I'm sorry for putting you through this, you know? Like I said before I left for... [ A shrug. ] I know it's my fault.
...So what is this? [ He holds up the bag slightly, but he's smiling fondly at her, like he's blessed because she's still here after all this -- even if she punched him in the face a few minutes ago. ]
[ hopefully, he doesn't fear her being near him, because she inches closer to him until she can hold the paper bag with him.
what's inside -- she doesn't pull it out yet, but she does smile at him. it feels great to have a better understanding of him now. not just for psychological reasons, but for personal reasons, as well. it's nice to actually know the one you love. ]
So long as you don't blame yourself for it until the end of time.
[ because that was one of the reasons why she was upset with him in the first place. dwelling on things that's happened in the past and not forgiving himself for it. ]
Open it, open it, [ she says excitedly, a hand moving to his shoulder and giving it a squeeze. ]
[ With how things have gone? Not at all. His head even dips a little, forehead pressing against hers. Craving the contact, really. They might have ... had some contact before he left, but that was pretty much him fearing he'd never be able to touch, to hold or kiss her again.
He knows better now, thankfully. ]
I'll try not to. [ Though it's more that he knows he has to go back to that life as well, and the tear it brought on himself between duty and just saying fuck it. To live for his time here and nothing else.
Guess which one he picked? ]
I'm opening it... [ His heart does this little flutter though, hearing the excitement in her voice again instead of the sadness that had taken over. This... was so much better. He pulls on the bag gently, opening it while pulling back a little now so he can see properly. ]
[ when he pulls out what's inside, he'll be holding a picture frame! it's a small one, just about the size of their cerevice. it's made of wood and it even looks handmade? there are stickers of widget's different faces all over the frame and stars and glitter, as if a preschool kid made it. but no, it's just athena. ]
I didn't know what to put for your magic, so I put glitter everywhere.
[ then she laughs.
the photo though, is the one they took at the cafe when they looked stupidly happy. when they pretended they were royalty. when they still weren't together, but were already falling for each other. ]
I'm sorry, too. [ for making him stressed out over the stupidest things. for... everything she's done that he didn't like. ] Do you forgive me?
[ His heart thuds before he can say anything though, and he can't stop the grin spreading on his face. It's short lived as he has to press his fingers against his nose, but the joy is there for sure. He's happy. He feels lighter. He swallows, tries to stop his stomach from flip flopping as he takes in the photo. To be honest, it had been his background picture for a while until they took another and that replaced it but-- ]
Glitter works, I think. [ It isn't too loud, and his voice cracks as he looks up at her now. ] I don't have anything I need to forgive you for. You haven't done anything wrong.
Though I have one more thing to admit. [ His thumb gently slides over the picture, palms a little clammy. ] It ... [ He laughs faintly, ears and cheeks flushing a little as his head gently moves to rest against her shoulder. ] That day, when you wore that dress. I-- [ Embarrassing. ] I really liked that. So thank you.
[ she holds back a sniff, happy that he's happy. elated that she can hear his heart without any discord now. it feels so good, like this. and she hopes that merlin's okay now; from what she's hearing though, she is for now. ]
I love you, [ is all she says as she dives in and embraces him, though. it's only been a few days, but it's been too long. ]
[ Well he's happy... but the embrace makes him hiss slightly as her arms aggravate the cuts and bruises across his skin. He holds her tightly though, just bites his lip so he can feel this even in his soul. ]
I love you too. [ He's still holding the frame tightly, not wanting to drop it. ]
[ He doesn't let her pull away though, arms holding tight. ]
It's fine. Just... [ He shifts himself a bit, leaning back just enough to give her a sheepish smile. ] It's just a few cuts and bruises. I didn't want to keep Shigeru worrying the entire time, he already had to listen to me for two days.
[ He missed her warmth, that's the first thing he's noticing with this. Her head rests against him, and in turn he nuzzles her hair a little. ]
It managed to do the front, but I'm not sure what my back is like. I used anti-septic wipes though. [ And the sting that caused told him enough that he had something there.
...Really, he doesn't want to worry her either, but ... hiding them seem like a bad idea right now. ]
[ a hand moves to his back to massage it a little, hoping she doesn't hit any of his cuts or bruises to make the stinging worse. what she does want is to make him feel better, and rest would be the best option, but she doesn't want to leave him alone.
not right now, not when they're together again like this. ]
That's reassuring. [ He's also joking though, as he finally pulls his hand back to lightly brush her cheek. He shifts forward a bit, no longer twisting towards her as he reaches for the bag he took with him. The medicines and bandages he'd packed were still left inside. There wasn't much else in there. ]
...Just in case. [ He adds, before she thinks that he's changed his mind and definitely might need helping. He hesitates then, reaching to give her hand that had been on his back a gentle squeeze. ]
Here. [ It's much quieter before he reaches for the corners of his top, pulling it up over his head.
It probably looks more worrying than it is, especially as there are teeth marks along his side.
Why is this the first time she gets his shirt off.......... ]
[ she tries her best to hide her surprise when she sees all those wounds. and the first thought that occurs to her is that she feels so sorry for him. she's experienced fighting the monsters in the labyrinth too, but having to do it a second time...
this guy really is an idiot.
her fingers run through some of the bite marks and the cuts before anything else, just tracing through them lightly. they don't seem to be serious injuries, though, and that gives her relief. she'd cry otherwise.
she makes way for the bag and puts some anti-septic on some cotton and starts dabbing them on the wounds. she doesn't say anything to him, mostly because she has nothing to tell him right now. she's already told him what she wanted to say, as well as the fact that she loves him. that's all she wants to tell him for now, really. ]
[ He is, but-- the pay off was worth it. After clearing his head, after learning that even Excalibur couldn't cut down those creatures on the upper levels and after creating a small earthquake.
It was worth it.
He shivers slightly when her fingers touch over the bites and cuts, eyes fluttering slightly. It still stings a little, but his body is fighting to heal already. The biggest threat is infection. ]
There's something I told you in that-- [ He hisses softly when she starts dabbing at the wounds. Really he hasn't done anything since he showered so it probably needed updating anyway. ] --letter. The sword. I wanted to see if it worked on something over there.
Let me guess, [ dab. dab. ] you wanted to beat those golems?
[ she already knows that they're unbeatable, even though she does have one part of it in her room, but after reading his letter, she understands better.]
