Hello!

Athena has a heightened sense of hearing, which makes her able to hear discord in people's voices. Another way of describing her ability is that she can hear people's hearts. Basically, if you are capable of feeling any emotion, she will be able to tell if what you said matches with what you felt at that time.

To help her with her ability, she uses the Mood Matrix, a program that can be accessed through her robot necklace. The above screencap shows what an unactivated Mood Matrix screen looks like.

The Mood Matrix shows visuals of a person's memories. On each corner of the Mood Matrix's screen are four different emotions: happiness, anger, sadness, and shock (from top (left-right) to bottom (left-right). These emotion icons light up depending on what emotions Athena is able to hear. Eg. you're very angry at someone, but you smile and say "It's okay", the angry icon will start blinking red.

As for any repressed memories, Athena would be able to sense it, but not know what it could be.

She doesn't always use the Mood Matrix—only on official business—but not using it doesn't turn off her heightened senses. It's only a way of visualising what she's hearing.

Please comment to this post if:
a) you are okay with Athena being able to pick up your character/s voice/s*, and
b) Athena can use the Mood Matrix on your character if/when the situation comes up ICly. **
* If you're fine with this, any emotion you put within action brackets will be heard by her.
** Please let me know what memories, emotions, and whatnot your character might be feeling/thinking. Likewise, if you'd like Athena to help them out with their issues, then comment here and we can plot!

I should have responded to this sooner, but I think it'd be fun to have Widget hacked at some point! It gets signal jammed sometimes that it can't detect anything, if that helps any.

You have blanket permission for Hiro to do what you gotta do. He's usually pretty open with how he's feeling. But he'll sometimes plays up the joker act to make sure that no one knows what's bothering him and hides more sad and somber feelings underneath.

And he'll also say or do weird/funny business to avert uncomfortable topics, try to keep people happy or attempt to control the flow of a conversation. Otherwise, he's still a very quirky and optimistic person.

General blanket permission for Roxas is cool, with the disclaimer that he's generally straightforward with what he feels anyway, unless it's an emotion he doesn't quite get. And.. also the fact that he's not really sure what the deal with his own emotions are since he's not supposed to have them and all. o/

He might react somewhat negatively if she points out his tendency to hide certain things (Like saying he's fine and smiling when he's not feeling great at all) because these tend to be personal things and most importantly this will come up most if he's thinking about his death, but otherwise I don't see this having much of an impact.

Pops in here to say I give permission for a and b! Just let me know in advance etc and I'll let you know what she'll be able to hear c:

a) - I would say in general, yes, that's fine! Though with Chrollo he's got himself so controlled that a lot of his emotions just come through as various shades of calm, even when he's speaking more enthusiastically. Whether that's positive or negative shades of such ("I'm happy for you, I'm just not going to indicate through more than an honest smile" versus "I've calculated how to kill you with the objects in my pocket.") is situation dependent. And if he's feeling more strongly I'll indicate it in my tags!

b) - If it comes up, let's talk about it. I'm not averse, we'd just need to plan.

i'll note he'll be uncomfortable with the idea if she brings it up to him, but i live for that, so it's all good.
