athena and apollo adventures: part 1
[ today is a weekend, and nobody's supposed to be at the wright anything agency, but athena's made her way in with her key and is just sitting on the couch and reading some stuff on widget.
a weekend as it may be, athena's got a packed schedule for the day. shopping for groceries (it's tough when you're living alone!), visiting the aquarium for some animal therapy, going to the library to study some, and that's just the start of her day. in the afternoon, she plans on heading to the gym to do some light workouts, and what a good way to train in her martial arts form by asking her colleague apollo to join her!
and also to carry her bags. so she's waiting for him now at the agency. athena's gone a bit too excited for today since she's never really spent time with apollo outside of work-related scenarios, so she got there extra early. ]

The one from Mr. Wright's first recent case? Haven't tried going yet. [Though he nearly feels like he has, from the sheer amount of times Athena's watched the orca's show in the office.]
If that's first on the list, let's head out now and beat the crowd. You wanted to see Orla and Sasha, right?
no subject
Oh, good idea! We should watch the show if we can catch it!
I was thinking of checking out the dolphins, though. They're nice to look at.
no subject
There's a small smile on his face as he claps a hand on Athena's shoulder and steers her back toward the door.]
You sure we have enough time for everything you have planned for the day?
no subject
and now that apollo's ready to go out the door, she waits for him to open it. be gentleman! athena expects it of you. ]
no subject
I think I'm learning not to underestimate you in anything, Athena. [Apollo locks the door behind them, glancing at her with eyebrows raised.] How far is the aquarium, anyway?
no subject
Do you want to race?
[ oooooor they can run...? ]
no subject
No, thanks. I can guarantee I'd be dead on my feet later if we tried running there. Let's just take the trains. You can save your energy for the gym.
[This time it's Apollo that's taking the lead and steering Athena along, in hopes of averting disaster. Between a race to the aquarium and a training session at the gym, he knows which one he would pick.]
no subject
[ why is everything a competition???
but anyway!! to the train station they go! ]
no subject
He keeps close as they walk, waiting until they're waiting on the platform for the train to pick up the conversation again.]
When'd you start training like this anyway?
no subject
After I met Mr. Wright in Europe.
I was such a mess before then, [ and she laughs. ]
How did you meet boss, anyway?
no subject
It's kind of a long story.
[A lot of good might have come of it eventually, with it being the case that started them on the path to the truth and Mr. Wright's name being cleared. Still unpleasant to think about sometimes, though. Anything about Kristoph generally is.]
no subject
I guess we can talk about that on another day, huh?
no subject
No, it's...fine. We can talk about it now. You're part of the fam--the agency now. [He colors a little, determinately pressing onward and trying to ignore that verbal stumble of his. He smiles crookedly.] It's only fair you know what you're getting into.
[With her sharp ears, Athena can detect a bit of nervousness and embarrassment in his voice. It's hard for him to open up to others, especially now that he's lost Clay, but if the last case has taught him anything, it's that he can trust Athena. Aware of the way he tends to distance himself from everyone, even the members of the Agency, Apollo's starting to realize he should work around his own habits and reach out a little more. Starting now.]
How much do you know about Mr. Wright's situation when he was in Europe?
no subject
she wonders what would make apollo nervous, though. was his first meeting with phoenix a bad one? it's obvious that it brings up bad memories from the way apollo said it was a long story, but she doesn't exactly know what to expect. ]
Not much, [ she answers, though her mind's fixated on what could be apollo's story. ]
He didn't have his license anymore, and he was studying European laws.
no subject
[Apollo breathes in quietly, expression even more pinched than usual.]
That defense attorney was Kristoph Gavin. My first boss.
no subject
Gavin?!
[ the first thing she thinks of is klavier... is that why apollo seems so agitated with klavier is around? ]
And I'm guessing he's related to Mr. Gavin— I mean, Mr. Klavier Gavin?
no subject
You guessed right. Kristoph is Prosecutor Gavin's older brother. He doesn't really like talking about it, not after everything.
[Not that Apollo can blame him.] Anyway, when Mr. Wright was accused of murder a little while ago, he asked me to be his defense attorney. [Mouth tightening slightly, Apollo glances away for a moment before he looks back at Athena.] I got Mr. Wright declared innocent, but Mr. Gavin was the one who took his place behind bars.
no subject
That must have been really tough.
[ accusing your boss of murder? and then you end up without a job? and surely, kristoph was apollo's mentor before phoenix was, too... it must have hurt him really badly. ]
I'm sorry.
no subject
Yeah... it was tough, I'm not going to lie about that. But if we hadn't done it, we'd never have found the truth in the end.
[Eyes catching hers, he says firmly,] That makes it worth it, don't you think?
no subject
That was actually inspiring, Apollo.
no subject
You think so? [And then a pause, eyes narrowing suspiciously.] Wait, what do you mean "actually"?
no subject
I'm just saying. I feel so pumped up!
[ she does a few punches at the air before stopping in her tracks again. ]
no subject
Nothing wrong with being pumped up. [Apollo tells her when he's close enough.] Can we just leave your hair out of the equation next time?
[Feeling some of her emotions catch, though he'd never admit it, Apollo flicks the tip of her ponytail pointedly, a wry smile on his face.]
no subject
What's wrong with my hair?
no subject
Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
[It's kind of a relief when the doors close and their compartment's only half-full. The perks of being early.]
What time does the aquarium open?
