[ He pauses at the question, because he knows that kind of thing can't be easy on her. They both might not have their dads, but he does have his mother, which is different to her. He pulls the book away then, shifting until she's settled against him. He entwines their fingers, nuzzles her again and finally says-- ]

Strong. Caring. It hasn't been easy, but she never really let it show. She always worked so hard. It... When my powers first started, before I could even talk, I can't imagine what went through her head. Trying to keep that secret... it must have been difficult. She never once blamed me for it though, she said my powers were a gift, something to treasure.

It was just. Lonely. I think it was probably harder on her. I had one friend there, but everyone else... it was just too dangerous. I didn't fit in, that isn't something you can hide forever.
