[ she clicks her tongue a couple of times as she shakes her head disapprovingly. tsk tsk. ]

[ His eyebrows raise at her as the waiter comes in to pour the wine first, putting the plates on the table. ]

[ not for her, anyway. other people might think nerds are gross or whatever, but she's a nerd too so :( ]

[ He shifts to hold up the wine between them. ]

[ she raises her glass a bit just so it clinks with his. ]

To the fish? [ Sorry, there definitely was a small laugh to that, but then he's shifting in his seat as he uses his free hand to reach into his pocket. His teeth nervously dig into his lip, pulling on the skin as he looks at her and keeps the glass in the air. ]

I was thinking of something else.

Well, a second later he's holding out a tiny box and okay, maybe it will sound a little disappointing in a moment (this is not a proposal calm down) when he opens it with magic, to show this ring inside. ]

I was thinking more of towards a promise to being together forever.

[ it's a good thing this is a toast and that she isn't drinking her wine yet. had she been, she'd 100% have spat it out at merlin. and we wouldn't want that, would we? ]

I— [ she isn't even eating anything but she chokes. ] Wha- What?!

[ her reaction isn't negative no matter how it seems. her face has turned red, her jaw's dropped, and she just stares at him incredulously. HOW CAN HE SAY THAT WITH SUCH A STRAIGHT FACE!! ]

He glances down at the hand holding the box, then back at her. ??? Did he say it wrong??? ]

Well, Engla-- Arthur told me that people don't really get married that quickly anymore, so I talked to the jewelers and they said there's something called a "promise" ring.

So...?

[ NOW HE'S DOUBTING HIMSELF................. ]

Unless you wanted it to be...? [ help them ]

[ his uncertainty is only making her laugh... i'm so sorry. she doesn't answer him directly, though, and instead lowers her glass and sets it back on the table before she offers her hand to him. ]

[ Now it's his turn to go a little red, especially as a few people in the restaurant whoop and clap and cheer. (probably amy tbh)

He puts his wine down and reaches to pull the ring out of the box, pulling it towards her hand to slip it onto her ring finger. He kisses over it after, trying to ignore everyone else in the restaurant. Ah. ]

[ with how the night had started, her attention would've been solely focused on the aquariums in both their room and the restaurant, but this has definitely changed things. she'd just be looking at this all night now. ]

It's so pretty.

[ they haven't even touched their food yet but here comes another waiter with a slice of cake and serves it to them. the other waiters throw confetti around them as they since and dance to "for he's a jolly good fellow". ]

[ Well at least that's something else now, that she's paying more attention and isn't distracted by the fish but still. ]

Just like its owner. [ He can't help but smile but honestly even he's flustered when the restaurant goes all out, they get serenaded and confetti thrown on them. One of his hands moves to half cover his face. ]

I mean... Sorry. I didn't expect they'd... do that.

[ okay, maybe it does, but she just doesn't seem to care about the other people right now. at the very least, the waiters leave the two of them after their little song number. some even go so far as to pat merlin on the shoulder or give him a slap on the back as they walk away.

her other hand reaches for his now, though, so both her hands are holding his. she looks so lovestruck, as if her feelings for him just exploded. ]

[ in this world of theirs, she means. the other people around them don't mean a thing. ]

[ That really is embarrassing too though? He ends up rubbing the back of his neck with his free hand, where the skin is bright red too. He licks his lips nervously, sweating under the collar a bit even if his heart feels like it'll burst from how she's looking at him now.

It is. Well, not really but... I can pretend. M... mostly. [ I mean, some people are still whispering things while not-so-subtly walking past. ]

she lets go of his hand and takes a forkful of salad before offering it to him. ]

Well, the faster we eat, the sooner we'll have privacy.

[ He leans to take a bite, his hand dropping to pick at the fork next to his place. Though, he does almost choke at what she says. ]
